2012 - 2014 AQS Quilt Show - Grand Rapids

We had a contest to pick a theme for our challenge entry in the first AQS Show in Grand Rapids. The winner is "A Grand River View" submitted by Barb Bryson. There were a lot of great suggestions and a few of them had a reference to the river, but the board determined that this particular phrase was the best choice. Barb will receive a prize at the meeting.

Now it's time to get stitching. The rules are as follows: finished quilt shall measure 35" X 45", each quilt must include some water so that we can tell it involves the Grand River, quilts must be completed and brought to the March Guild meeting for selection by the general membership.

Please remember that the Grand River is 252 miles long, the longest river in Michigan. It runs through the cities of Jackson, Eaton Rapids, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Grand Haven as well as through smaller towns and rural areas. The choice of subject is up to you, but please don't try to include too much; one scene of life along the Grand is what we are looking for. One caution: if you decide to use a photo or image that could possibly belong to someone please get permission first. For instance if you are going to include an image of a hotel or museum in Grand Rapids, get permission to use the image first. We are looking for quality work and a good representation of our theme. We want to have our challenge chosen for the show and we want to make our Guild proud.

We are to submit just 8 quilts for the challenge. Hopefully we will have many to choose from and the general membership will pick the best 8 quilts of those displayed at the March guild meeting.
