MJ Kinman – “Gems & Joy” Lecture – Tuesday, March 28, 2023

3500 Byron Center, Wyoming, MI 49509 3500 Byron Cente, Wyoming, MI, United States

During my presentation, I will talk about the techniques of creating and assembling the hundreds of pieces in each diamond, materials I use to create the wash of color and light across a gem’s surface and the quilting techniques that enhance a gem’s facets. I will also share the importance of choosing joy and saying “no” to fear as I made the leap from the Corporate Life to the Creative Life.

Mini Gems Workshop with MJ Kinman, Wed. March 29, 2023, 9am – 4pm

3500 Byron Center, Wyoming, MI 49509 3500 Byron Cente, Wyoming, MI, United States

This is a fast-paced workshop where participants will create their own singularly beautiful work of a faceted gem using the single-foundation piecing technique I used to create my own “diamond quilts”. Participants choose one of several pre-selected abstract gem designs based on their skill level. They learn how to chart on freezer paper, code pieces for color, location and position template pieces onto fabric to achieve the desired light effects. Participants leave the class with a small top that can later be quilted as a pillow, table topper, art picture or added on to for a full quilt. Class size is 25 participants. Reminder on

Phyllis Fay Lecture – Introduction to the Fundamental Studio 180 Design Tools

3500 Byron Center, Wyoming, MI 49509 3500 Byron Cente, Wyoming, MI, United States

Learn how to improve the precision of making basic units for any pattern by using the Studio 180 Design tools by Deb Tucker. The concept is to make the basic unit slightly oversized so that you can trim it to the exact measurements you need without losing any points. You will want to use these techniques on any pattern you purchase. As you progress into the advanced tools, you will quickly find yourself designing your own blocks and improving your piecing.

Nancy McNally – All Things Quilty Lecture

3500 Byron Center, Wyoming, MI 49509 3500 Byron Cente, Wyoming, MI, United States

Nancy McNally has been quilting for more than 20 years, after being introduced to quilting by accident at a picnic. She loves to design her own quilts and create longarm quilting designs. Nancy takes traditional blocks and jazzes them up! She likes to keep the eye moving across the quilt, but at the same time allow the eye to find a favorite spot to rest and appreciate the colors. Nancy is a national teacher of both piecing and longarm machine quilting, and has been published over 30 times in various quilting magazines and books. See her website at nancymcnallyquilts.com.

Woven Stars Workshop with Nancy McNally

3500 Byron Center, Wyoming, MI 49509 3500 Byron Cente, Wyoming, MI, United States

Woven Stars quilt can use 10" precuts or yardage for the star points plus yardage for the main fabric that is used through. Pattern includes 2 sizes: 66" x 66" and 78" x 102". Woven Stars is NOT your traditionally pieced quilt pattern. There are some "leftover" fabric scraps that come from the method used for block construction. Save them or discard or give them away to a friend who enjoys making scrappy quilts.

Toby Lischko – “Using Mirrors to Enhance and Add Variety to Your Quilt Blocks”

Toby LischkoI have have always been interested in crafts from a very early age. I was about 8 years old when my dad made me a spool weaver.  You would wind and weave yarn on it and it would come through the hole as a tube. I dressed up my dolls with long tubes sewn together.   As I got older I started teaching myself knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, needlepoint, crewel, English smocking, even tatting! Each hobby lasted a few years but I would eventually get bored with them. I come from a long line of sewers. No one in my family
